Welcome to my corner of the world, 40 degrees north latitude and 105 degrees west longitude. Life here in Longmont, Colorado is likely like yours-filled with joys and beauty, family and friends, stresses and work, and good warm feelings when you crawl into bed at night. The high blue skies and mountain peaks are extra perks that make the scenery of daily life here pretty special.
I am Katie, mom of two, teacher of many, and wife to one handsome man. My days are filled with momming schedules and peanut butter sandwiches, school bells and grading, and cooking for family and friends. Really good days also include reading and chocolate (and, okay, exercise).
When I was in first grade, I wrote a gymnastics story for an author’s competition. I have loved writing for as far back as that memory, but I don’t get to do it much anymore.
Enter mysmalljoys blog. I hope this indulgence for myself (Yes! I can write here!) may also become a small joy for you (Yes! Let’s share those dessert recipes!). I hope we can be friends.
While you are here and getting to know me, allow me to make some confessions:
*If the clock reads 10 p.m., it is way too late. I start getting anxious about my bedtime. Similarly, I am not good at letting my kids stay up late. Our entire household is usually up before 6 a.m. One day, I dream of sleeping until 8:00. Does that happen with children?
*I am a University of Colorado alum. Go Buffs! My husband is a Nebraska Husker. Boo!
*I hate the swimming pool. I so want to be the mom who gets excited about leisurely summer days spent at the pool. Instead I picture water up the nose, the gaggy sound of kids accidentally inhaling water, the gross bathroom floors, the feeling of wriggling swimsuits off of my children while they shiver, the smell of chlorine, and the laundry I have to do when I get home.
Sigh.
I am good at other things.
*My favorite food is bread, preferably hot and crusty, with butter and honey. Strangely, I don’t like hotdogs or hamburgers. I feel less American stating that. However, I do dig apple pie!
*My son’s voice is my favorite sound in the world. It is still young and small, and I want to bottle it up.
*My daughter has the most fantastic freckles. They just make me happy.
*My favorite moment each day is when my husband calls me (he calls me often – I still smile!).
*I really like to be in the house by myself. Ahem … can you three kindly step out for just a few blissful, beautiful moments? Please do come back, but only after I have done a bit of reading and maybe even have taken a bath.
*We eat dessert every day. I can’t wait to share some of our favorites with you.
Thanks for joining me here. More small joys and confessions to come.

We’re looking forward to sharing in all the memories you post here!
We love you!
