I tried, January and February, I really did. I tried to like you. I tried to embrace you.
I am sorry.
I am ready to say goodbye. And darn you, February, going and adding one more day to yourself this year (Happy Birthday, Leap Year Babies).
I know that gratitude is the key to happiness…
I am grateful for the fuzzy socks on my cold feet. I am grateful for the extra pounds keeping me warm (#mmm winter carbs). I am grateful that my skin is so pale and not in danger of too much UV. I am grateful for extra soft tissue with lotion that helps reduce winter nose redness.
Is it working?
I may need to make some adjustments to my attitude of gratitude, and no better time than the present. As always, when I get over myself, there are very lovely and sweet bits of joy weaved into these quiet days. Here is a peek into a few:
February was cold, so Sunday afternoons were often spent in the office planning for school or grading papers. Jameson’s company was a gift.
We spent a lot of time in Jason’s gym. Three big cheers for having a P.E. teacher daddy! Our favorite day included a bunch of friends, ropes, a zip-line, and brunch in the cafeteria. We know how to turn an average gym into hours of fun.
There were a few mild days scattered among the cold, and we took advantage. Bike rides, parks, and basketball with neighbors were a favorite.
Jameson had a special kindergarten math night at his school, and we all got to learn from him and eat pizza with all of his buddies, too! It was certainly a February favorite.
Jason and I both survived parent/teacher conferences this month (celebrate!!)! Harper and Jameson helped me pack little goodie bags for my staff. Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up in your mailbox to get through a long week.
Of course, we also took an ultra fast getaway to Las Vegas …
And licked our lips for M&M World …
And came home again to enjoy the quiet end of what is, hopefully, our last truly winterish month. March is the snowiest month in Colorado. We did a little homework at Starbucks and warmed ourselves up with steamers and scones.
Other lovely but not pictured February joys included braised short ribs, a double date with wine and laughter, toffee cookie crackers, Sonic the Hedgehog movie (SO cute), bubble baths, and the sweetest pen pal letter writing project between my 5th graders and a handful of high school seniors.
I hope your February was pink with love.
But, if it was more grayish and just a little cold and bleh, then join me in welcoming March! Bring on the green.
