April and May Celebrations in Review

May 29, 2020

Well hello computer. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. Truth be told, I haven’t wanted to spend any more time on the screen than needed. After hours of webex meetings, grading, and recording instructional videos, my eyes were done for. Burning. Over it.

However, I am coming up for air! Memorial Day has officially come and gone, unofficially announcing the entrance of summer. Online homeschool has ended, online teaching has ended … praise hands. It feels like a good time to look back on these two very memorable months and to highlight their joys.

Jameson’s sweet message to his teacher was definitely a celebration.

Colorado’s flyovers in honor of frontline workers were great. The kids thought that sticking their heads out of the moonroof to watch was particularly great.

April brought beautiful signs of spring here in Colorado. I fell in love with the purple wildflowers that threw themselves across the landscape.

Warmer weather meant more picnic opportunities.

We even took a field trip in quarantine. If you are local, this is a great place to drive through to peek some bison.

And then, May flowers!

Not every day was sun and fun. Rainy days meant puzzles and baking.

May is always a happy month. There is so much promise in May. There is more sun, more blue in the sky, more looking ahead …

We wrapped up school just before Memorial Day. Our neighborhood celebrated with “virtual field day” events, which ended up with sneakers on the roof (oops, the shoetoss went awry), and a Kona Ice truck.

Thank goodness we have a wonderful neighbor who is willing and happy to be on ladders all of the time. By the way, if you need a great window cleaner, look no further!

And just like that, I have a first grader and a third grader. I can hardly believe it.

One huge May celebration was the return of Grandpa and Grandma. My parents winter in Florida, and it is aways a big occasion when they return home to Colorado. They came back just in time to share in the end-of-year festivities from a distance. Most importantly, they are healthy and well.

Grandma gave them a ride in her Mini-Cooper convertible. Win, win!

Now summer is upon us. I am filled with mixed feelings, and so are the kids. We, like everyone, are waiting and wondering just how things will be. For now, I am going to celebrate having more time for this:

And I am going to remain grateful that everything we need is right here.
