Harper Grace, you have been alive for a decade. Wow! Just as you amazed me from the moment you arrived, you continue to amaze me (and your dad and all of your family).
I watched you this evening, carrying on conversations about all kinds of things. You, with your tall elegance, held your presence in space so beautifully. You are wise and have a keen eye on the world. You know what you love, but you always pursue learning. You love to travel and see what’s out there. You are a kid, and you journal about your days at school and your friends and your silly brother. You still love to color, run in the sprinkler, and eat junk food. And yet, you are such a young lady, too. You also journal about war and grief, you ride a horse with courage, and you can cook and help your family.
Your thoughts are gifts, as are your hugs. You are terrific, Harper, and I am so glad you are mine. Happy 10th birthday to you, my daughter.

It was no surprise that Harper chose an equine theme for her birthday. She started her special day with a couple of girlfriends at her favorite place – the barn. They rode Jill, braided the pony’s mane, and visited the foals and piglets.
Back at home, she enjoyed her usual birthday decor. Jason and I were happy to hear that a double-digits age is not too old for mom and dad decorations! We sang to her outside and enjoyed a cake in her honor.
Her fun continues today as she attends her first horse show with her Nana. According to Harper, number ten has been the “best birthday yet.” We sure hope so, Harps. You are loved.
