Jason was born and raised a Cornhusker – brought up in a close knit community with 10+ aunts and uncles and countless cousins and lived simply and happily, running back and forth between his house and the soccer field across the street. Though Jason and his parents have been Coloradans for some time now, you could never truly take the Nebraska out of them.
When Jason’s dad passed away in May, we honored him here in Colorado. But we also knew that it would be of utmost importance to return him to his Nebraska roots. Last week, we returned to Omaha to lay him to rest. The service was just right. Jerry would have loved it. And so, we now carry a sense of peace, stitched into a safe space within, to savor.
The trip was bittersweet. We said goodbye again, and cried our tears again, and rehashed the last grim few months again. And yet … we laughed a lot. We gathered and smiled and saw family we hadn’t in more than a decade. It was finally time to introduce our own kiddos to their daddy’s hometown, and it was good deep down inside.
Here is a little trip down memory lane and a glimpse into some new memories, too.
Today’s photo journey is short and sweet. In truth, we are taking away so much more than what is pictured.
To sweet Jerry, thanks for the memories.
