My sweet mama turned 70 this year. She decided to celebrate it BIG, and I think it’s terrific. Yesterday, she left for Spain to walk the last 70 miles of the Camino de Santiago. I mean … how neat is THAT?
After a day of travel, via New York and Madrid, she arrived in the ancient walled town of Lugo, Spain.
Along the way, she picked up a dear companion, who she will share her adventure with. Mom and Audrey have been loyal friends since becoming neighbors over 45 years ago. Since then, they have shared the chapters of their lives – children, marriages, cross-country moves, jobs and job changes, women’s trips, mom and kids trips, grandchildren, health bumps, and anniversaries. They laugh a lot and lift each other up. We will cheer them on from afar and know they will make some neat memories along the way.
Their route takes them through the hills of the Sierra Ligonde and ancient villages like Leboreiro.
With health and positive vibes on their side, they will walk between eight and twelve miles a day to arrive, finally, in Santiago de Compostela.
Mom, we are proud of you! Bravo you! You love your family, are incredibly smart, see the world as a gift to embrace, know when to say no because you have clarity of character, and know when to say yes – like this – when life offers an invitation to honor personal strength, friendship, and adventure all at the same time.
Que tengas un buen viaje … Have a good journey! xo
