Family Fun

A fond farewell

August 13, 2023

Today was the last of the summer Sundays. It was a little bit sweet- an extra morning coffee, a sense of calm, in that the kids have two more days, a walk with the pooch, and a sprinkling of baking. And, also, it was a little bit scary – it’s back to school, back to mental time equations, and nervous bellies.

Don’t get me wrong, back to school is one of the most fun times of year! It is exciting and hopeful and energizing! But, the mama in me also mourns the loss of the beautiful gift that summer gives. I will miss the slow mornings, the leisurely snuggles, the midday walks, and the unhurried bedtimes.

This summer was a good one:

Jameson turned 9.
Harper turned 11.
We shared a memorable trip to Hawaii with amazing family.
We explored a national park.
Puppies were pampered.
Beautiful things grew.
Horses were friends.
We got some exercise.
We put up the tent in the backyard.
We discovered Ultimate Frisbee, and it was so much fun to watch!
We were silly.
And we shared a lot of love.

Farewell, summer 2023. Thank you for my healthy family, for the sunshine, and for so much more.
