Bloom where you are planted

Fall Feels

October 16, 2023

The dishwasher is humming quietly from the kitchen, and the puppy is snoozing in the corner. Harper is packing her backpack, and Jameson is stealing a few more hoops outside before night takes its full descent. Jason is making small circles on my shoulder as I sit down to type a grateful goodbye to the long weekend behind us. It is Monday night, which means it’s the end of our little fall break, a four-day respite.

The trouble with long weekends – if they are good, and this one was- is that they remind you of the things that really matter. Allowing our bodies to rest without alarm, reading, taking the dog for long stroll, watching the season change, filling our lungs with crisp autumn air, snuggling the kids for an extra few minutes because there is also tomorrow and tomorrow night, baking with spices and feeding our family, hugging an animal, learning something new, picking something we planted, seeing a magic show, watching the snow fall on mountain tops, reaching for a pumpkin on a vine, talking on the phone to a mom, scratching a back, sitting in a bubble bath, taking pictures of leaves, coming home. There is so much purpose within the nests we create for ourselves and how we love our people.
