My first born is officially a tween. Like everyone says, time has wings. Harper was born on a smoky day in 2012. Wildfires burned in the Colorado foothills, and the skies were hazy. This is something that my family remembers well from Harper’s birth, though I don’t recall it at all.
I was in another world, on a high from becoming a mother, completely tucked in to my new baby, analyzing her every curve and every sound. I did not know what was going on outside, and I did not care. Harper came to us, and just like that, our world was anew.
Now she’s approaching middle school, developing her own style and desires, and growing into the young adult who she will embody from here forward. Harper continues to love math, writing, horseback riding, and organizing. In the last year, she’s also adopted some new loves including volleyball, shopping, and decorating.
Without further ado, here is the newest eleven-year-old:
What is your favorite color? White
What is your favorite food? Cheese ravioli
What is your favorite part of the school day? Math
What is your favorite TV show? Anything comedic
What is your favorite movie? I don’t have one!
What is your favorite item to wear? Leggings
What is your favorite book? Canterwood Crest series
What do you want to do when you grow up? Pediatrician
Dream vacation? Maui
Who is your hero? Dad
What is your favorite thing about yourself? My nose
What do you love to do? Go horseback riding, play volleyball, hang-out, see friends, watch basketball, try new hairstyles, go shopping
Harper decided against a specific theme this year and opted for a color, instead. So, her celebration was to be soft blue and white. We did the best we could, and we think she was a happy camper.
Harper requested a waffle bar for her morning breakfast. It was a delicious success.
Then, she wanted a mom/daughter shopping afternoon in lieu of a specific gift. So, the two of us went out and about for a bit and picked up some goodies.
Afterward, we came home for a family dinner (ravioli, Grandpa’s special spaghetti sauce, and green beans) and cake (chocolate). Part of her decor was a wish wall. The best part is that she wrote a note to herself. We should all do this. Bravo you, Harper.
Once a little girl …
Now a beautiful young lady …
Happy, happy eleventh birthday, Harper Grace. Thank you for being you. You are endlessly loved.
Omg, Katie! You need to cut out and frame her note to herself, bc she’s right- she is cute, smart, awesome and a great friend!! I love this so much.
