I know this isn’t everyone’s backyard. I am incredibly fortunate that it’s mine. I turned 36 this year. I remember when I was in my twenties (I miss you, metabolism!) hearing about the thirties being a great decade. I was told that I would know myself, be more financially and emotionally settled, and that life would be good. By and large, this is true. However, no one mentioned that I would be tired. Very tired. A good, busy, full tired. I need some breaks every now and then.
My favorite type of break is a bike ride out in the Colorado air. Who wouldn’t love to be surrounded by blue skies, country roads, and mountain neighbors?
Morning rides are a sweet pairing of exercise and meditation – a little self time to reflect and appreciate while getting in the necessary cardio fix.
When I leave the house pedaling, my mind is usually filled with all kinds of things.
But by the time I’m down the road a bit, my mind starts to calm. I breathe a little easier. Things fade away while the beauty of life takes over and reminds me to appreciate every minute and every mile, every stress and every joy. After all, it’s a lovely new day, isn’t it? Each one is a gift.
