How was your weekend? I hope it was simple and nearly perfect. We tried to make the best of this last one of July. Next weekend, I’ll be all-in with back to school brain. I looked at the calendar six times today, just to be sure it was true: there is one week of summer left for the teachers ’round here. Time to slow down and speed up, sleep in and restart the morning routine, get rid of the summer to-do list and check off all of the last minute items. So many contradictions, so little time.
But first, a quick look back. On Friday, we enjoyed the last day of Harper’s week-long volleyball camp. We watched her scrimmage and whooped and clapped when her bump went over the net. After this, we grabbed a celebratory lunch out and then headed to mommy’s school for a bit. Harper and Grandma put up borders, wiped out book bins, and generally kept great company while I started to put together the classroom for another year.
On Saturday, Jason volunteered for the local Colorado Special Olympics event. He scored bocce ball, and we went for a visit. It was wonderful in so many ways. Afterward, we headed to the farmers’ market for all things glorious this time of year (and a few pastries, too). Harper and Jameson had playdates with sweet friends in the afternoon, and we topped off the day with an evening stroll.
Today, we met family for breakfast and good conversation. Grandma and Grandpa took the kiddos to get new backpacks and out for ice cream. Jason and I had two beautiful hours to ourselves here. We sat on the porch and lazily read. Yippee! Then, we went back to school to tend to the garden and ninja for a bit on the playground.
How else do you end a good weekend? With pizza, of course! The next time you buy a Boboli crust from the grocery store, consider this method for something a little “fancy.” And delicious.
If your calendar claims that summer is dwindling in your neck of the woods, I wish many more moments of sun in your face. I wish you more days of low cortisol in your blood. And, of course, I wish you a night of delicious pizza, too!
