Life Lately

August 2, 2022

Welcome to sultry August. How does this month make you feel? Depending on where you live, it could mean another glorious and uninterrupted month of summer. Here, it means it’s time to get back to reality. It means school is right around the bend.

We are wrapping up summer break, checking off a few things from the bucket list and pacing out all the errands and shopping and organization that B2S is. Here’s a little sprinkle of life lately.

Though we are still early risers in the summer, I am doing my best to not actually get out of bed for a good long while before starting the day. Time for morning coffee in bed, Pinterest browsing, reading, and Sudoku puzzling. I still have a few more days to embrace being slow and easy. I intend to take advantage.

We have had some rainy afternoons to get comfy on the couch and get a little work done.

We went school supply shopping earlier than normal this year and had much more to choose from. Jameson is all over the colors this year. Harper went for the mature subdued pastels. I love how third grade-ish versus fifth grade-ish these piles are.

I got myself a new planner. I like this one. Like Jameson, I’m on the color train this year. Makes me happy.

We turned in our summer reading challenges at the city library and received prizes! We got new books and gift coupons for the local used bookstores. I love our Longmont.

We have been watching things grow and enjoying the fruits. We finally have red tomatoes in our garden! I particularly love how the sweet potato vines are full and happy this time of year. Though I am tired of the 90 degree weather, I do know that I will miss the lush green of the yard and the fullness of the flower pots in a few months.

Jason took the kiddos fishing at a local spot. Jameson was a bit lucky, but otherwise, no bites. A friend of ours warned us there were no fish living in Colorado 🙂 I guess we got the only darn one.

We shared the classic movie, The Great Outdoors, with Harper and Jameson. Hysterical. Having traveled to Wisconsin earlier this summer made this movie night particularly joyful.

We took out Grandma’s Mini Cooper for a joyride.

In other non-pictured news, Jameson and Harper continue to be busy playing with friends, selling homemade bracelets to neighbors, scooter-riding, horseback riding, and bargaining for both more screen time and a puppy.

Jason and I snuck out on a date-morning bike ride and have another date planned for this weekend. We are wrapping up house projects, filling our back to school and fall calendars, reading, exercising, and squeezing in extra cups of coffee.

In lightning-round life lately:

  • What we are eating: corn, zucchini, and donuts
  • What I am watching: the newest season of Virgin River
  • What I am reading: just finished Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams (would recommend!)
  • What I am listening to: The Simple Sophisticate podcast (a Francophile teacher who talks about life’s simply pleasures – cute)
  • What I am wearing: shorts and exercise clothes until I dig out the work outfits
  • What I am looking forward to: organizing my classroom, the energy of a new school year
  • What I am dreading: those positive vibes being pushed away, packing lunches
  • What I am reminiscing about: when my babes were young enough for summer story time at the library

This week, we are hitting the pool one more time and heading to the reservoir for paddle boarding. After that, the kiddos have two more items on their summer bucket list: a flashlight walk and staying up until midnight. If you know us, you know one of these is completely impossible for this family.

This is 8:01 p.m. Can you guess which bucket list item we won’t complete?
