In lightning-round life lately:
What we are eating: leftovers (pasta, birthday cake, odds n’ ends from the fridge) – the true fruits of summer have not yet arrived, but I am eagerly awaiting juicier berries and sweet corn
What I am watching: Shrinking on Apple TV – the story of a widowed psychiatrist (Jason Segal), his touchstone mentor (Harrison Ford), and a funny cast of characters who require therapy
What I am reading: The Road to La Papillon by Shannon Ables – this book is organized by days of the calendar, so I enjoy opening it each morning and reading just a little bit. I enjoy her “Petit Plaisirs” at the end of each day, a little tip or treat to make your day brighter. Her June theme is travel, and she included a Mark Twain quote that I very much adore:
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
What I am listening to: The Peloton outdoor app while I walk Finn, the We Can Do Hard Things podcast while I drive, and the solo piano channel on Pandora while I read or write
What I am wearing: exercise clothes and layers – we are still averaging below 70 degree temps here in Colorado with ample rain. We have had a gorgeous wet spring, which I am thankful for.
What I am looking forward to: We are heading to Hawaii with our family! Harper and Jameson have never been to a beach, and they are jazzed for this experience. I am jazzed to watch them play and explore. Jason is looking forward to the food and the Japanese influence. We all look forward to the scenery, fresh pineapple, and time spent with special people without laundry, groceries, or puppy training.
What I am dreading: On the flip side, I am going to miss Finn while we are away. I am also, generally, dreading the passage of time. There is so much I hope to accomplish each summer, and things I want to improve on, and thoughts and actions to reflect on, and I dread the feeling of let-down when the season fizzles away to quickly.
What I am reminiscing about: We have good friends who are in Paris this week. I am reminiscing about my December trip there with Mom. I love when memories are close. Right now, I can clearly picture our strolls and the little places we stopped for le cafes. But with time, the details fade and what’s left is the glow. I will always glow from this special trip.
The world is so beautiful! Onward to find some sun and coconuts … my gratitude is abundant.
