Three Things

October 17, 2022
The mums on my porch make me happy.

Good morning from beautiful October in Colorado. I hope you have a hot cuppa in your hands and that your day will feel satisfying. Here’s a little “three things” update about each of us lately, plus a bonus at the end.

Harper is building her Christmas list, one Target visit at a time.
  1. Harper is currently exploring and loving all things self-care. Put her in a body shop, and she is one interested girl. Her collection of chapsticks, lotions, and face washes has grown exponentially over the last six months. She sure smells good.
  2. Despite number 1, Harper still shows her young-at-heart nature. She begs her brother to borrow his scooter all the time. This weekend, we finally bought her one of her own. She is thrilled! By the way, this one is great (if you are already Christmas shopping) – it has strong rubber tires and a wide footboard. We bought the same one twice.
  3. Harper is planning to be a Starbucks barista for Halloween this year. She considers this to be a mature costume, just right for her age. Also, she is hopeful that I will give in and allow her access to frappuccinos more regularly. I think not.
Jameson receiving a stripe for performing his kata routine.
  1. Jameson is exploring a new hobby- karate! So far, he thinks this is terrific, and honestly, we do too. They begin each class with stretching and counting in Japanese. Then, they learn “basics.” Finally, they learn something more advanced, like a routine. Jameson digs his gi (karate outfit) and, of course, loves earning stripes toward a new belt.
  2. Jameson is learning cursive as a third grader, and his penmanship is beautiful. Who knew? I hope he will stick with it.
  3. Lover of all things food, Jameson’s excitement for Halloween is centered on access to candy. He has settled for a ninja costume (again … this may be a third year of it), because the dressing up is a small hurdle between him and a big full bag of goods.
Go Rapids!
  1. Jason loves to wake up early and watch the English Premier League. He dreams of going to a game abroad sometime, and I would love to take him. But, for now, he settled with bringing us to an MLS game here in Colorado. We had fun! It was a beautiful afternoon to cheer on the Rapids.
  2. Jason has taken up pickle ball. Of course, he is a natural at all things athletic, so though he claims that he really enjoys the socializing and conversation of others there, we really know he loves a good victory.
  3. He just finished this book which takes place in an Iowa cornfield. It is creepy and disturbing, a good read for October. However, when our family went to a corn maze this weekend for fall break, Jason was frequently looking over his shoulder.
Fall at the barn
  1. I am enjoying fall so very much. I feel like this may be one of the most Octoberest Octobers in a long while. The trees in our neighborhood are stunning, and they are bold against the Colorado blue sky. I am feeling gratitude for where I am.
  2. My book stack is LARGE at the moment. After a summer of lots of reading, the pace slowed when school started and titles piled up. I finally got my groove back and am back in the mode. Lately, I read The It Girl (not my favorite Ruth Ware, but I did dig the dark academic vibes), Verity (I read this in a day, I am not even sure how to describe it … your jaw will drop), and Nora Goes off Script (adorable, romantic, and easy – just what I needed after Verity). I just started Taste, Stanley Tucci’s memoir and am thoroughly enjoying it.
  3. I am sad that Halloween is falling on a Monday this year. I am a mom and a teacher. Enough said. Yes to the petition for permanently making Halloween the last Friday in October.
I mean … come on
  1. This is the biggest Goldsberry family update of all. Sigh. We have given in. A sweet little (but not little for long) sheepadoodle puppy is to join our family next weekend! We have all the feels (yikes!), but overwhelmingly, we are excited for share some love and get so much canine love back in return. Updates to come.
